Overview
The Central Kalahari Game Reserve (CKGR) covers a large section of central Botswana. It has a fascinating spectrum of different plants and animals. Its harsh, sprawling landscape is dominated by grasslands, Kalahari sand acacias and Kalahari Apple leaf. There are several fossilized river valleys, including Deception Valley and Passarge Valley. With the rains (November – April), the desert comes to life. Hordes of plains game are followed by numbers of predators, producing some of the best summer wildlife viewing in Botswana.
It is home to wildlife such as giraffes, cheetahs, hyenas, wild dogs and the legendary Kalahari black-maned lion.
There are two lodges within the CKGR; Kalahari Plains Camp and Tau Pan.
Campsites are available within the CKGR at the following sites:
- Piper Pan
- Passarge Valley
